Pneumatic Solenoid Valve - Things You Should Know
Pneumatic Solenoid Valve is the best product to control the fluid flow (Compressed air) automatically. It is mainly used in heavy industries where manual intervention is not possible and the need of such machineries become mandatory. They are largely used in variety of plants and equipment. These are available in variety of designs and types, depending on the purpose for which it has to be used. Its structure is cylindrical in shape.
By Solenoid, we can understand that it is a type of a coil which is used for creating the magnetic field when covered on all sides of any magnetic object. For engineers, it is used for transforming energy into motion. Solenoid Valve works as a switch to control the flow of water or air. When Pneumatic Solenoid Valve is on, it will allow the flow of gas otherwise not. It is designed to be used in Pneumatic processes. Both the Solenoid and Pneumatic Valves are combined together to execute the required process and this combination is known as Piloted Valve.
Structure of a Solenoid Valve -
Solenoid valve is basically made up of control units. When electrical energy flows through it, it allows the fluid to flow and vice versa. It consists of an actuator which acts as an electromagnet in the working of Pneumatic Solenoid Valve. When it energized, the Plunger moves in the opposite direction of the spring due to the magnetic field generated. In the second scenario, when the Solenoid Valve is de-energized, the Plunger moves back to its original place by the action of the spring. These Valves have more than 2 ports to perform the functions of a circuit. The action of the valve can be identified by a symbol.
Types of Solenoid Valve -
Direct-acting solenoid valve
Direct-acting 2-way solenoid valve
Direct-acting 3-way solenoid valve operation
Internally piloted solenoid valve
Internally piloted 2-way solenoid valve
Internally piloted multi-way solenoid valve
Externally piloted solenoid valve
Recommendation For It’s Use
Many of the engineers have raised the question that why Pneumatic Solenoid Valve is not used for the flow of other medium say liquid like water and oil. Experts have given a simple answer to this question. It can be used but experts have not recommended its use for such mediums because they are piloted valves with a small amount of air needed to actuate the process.
So, if there is minimal leak of air, it can be accepted but the same could not be possible in case of water and oil. Along with that, these are made up of such materials that can’t react with air but results in chemical reactions and corrosion with water and oil.
